Striving for Excellence in Training

President’s Report Summary for April

The Annual Conference, titled “Back To Basics,” was held at Lionhead Golf and Country Club. The highlight of the event was a panel discussion on amending the Entry Level Training program, which elicited significant interest and inquiries from the attendees. The conference also addressed forthcoming changes, including the institution of Instructor Certification and the arrangement of Mentorship throughout the Association.

Despite challenges such as the Trump Tariffs and a recession in the movement of goods, schools are facing difficulties in maintaining consistent enrollment due to scarce funding and job opportunities. Addressing these issues is a primary objective for the Association as we move into May.

Advocacy efforts aim to enhance the MELT program and modify Road Test rules, with valuable insights provided by the Stakeholder Group. The objective is to transfer these improvements into government actions that will benefit the industry.

With the conclusion of Provincial and Federal elections, there exists a stable environment within the government, which offers opportunities for advancing rules, regulations, funding, and legislation.

School membership remains stable, despite the tight economic environment, with emerging interest from new parties. Ensuring that membership remains controlled and exclusive is a priority. The Board plans to implement stricter measures to ensure compliance with best practices and ethics, which will drive student achievement and industry hiring practices
