Advocacy:
- ELT is being discussed regularly with MTO for changes, and updates. So far, It appears to be ready sometime next year
- TTSAO hired a person to go Undercover at a school to verify complaints of improper Backing Training. No student would go on record.
- Minister Sarkaria’s office does not return calls or arrangements for meetings.
- Input to Auditor General’s Report on Safety in Trucking
- Working with other stakeholders to move the needle on ELT, and Instructor Certification
Air Brakes:
- Will remain, as this is one main income stream for schools and also the Association. Prices are still the same.
- An Air Brake committee needs to form once again to make changes and to advise Jerry Rade of how to adjust this program with MTO.
- New school approval is CHEC, new course starting Oct. 17th .
- Alpine has also been passed by MTO, but have no courses scheduled.
- New instructors need to be admitted, one at CHEC, one at Alpine.
Committee Updates:
- Jeff is handling Membership and wants to do internal communication with the schools.
- Maria handles the Carriers and is working with Cutler to do a 237 carrier campaign for Discount Diesel and membership based on that program, plus our other member programs, Marks, SiriusXM, HeavyG
- Air Brakes, needs volunteers to update and reinvigorate
- By-Laws, re: Ken
Current Situation:
- Insurance Program. Very low take up on providing necessary information for the quote! We will not have a Group Plan for the Association with poor participation!!
- Diesel Fuel Discount. Also very low participation and interest, but good value for those who enroll and wish to save $$.
- Sirius XM: Meeting this month opened a potential to get their plan in place with PetroCan, just going forward now.
- Marks Comm. Very good cooperation to provide excellent value and variety in safety and clothing requirements, in our next Carrier Group meeting.
Our industry is having challenges in many, many areas. We, at the school level feel it severely since we are at the foundation of transportation participation.
The Association has arranged for plans to get costs in line with current market conditions, so take advantage of this opportunity. It only makes sense.
Safety and professionalism through training are the hallmarks of TTSAO, so keep doing the kind of work that makes us relevant and the leaders.
