Taking your driving test is undoubtedly daunting, but to help you mentally prepare, here are some top tips.
Be patient with yourself: As with learning all new skills, it takes time to get comfortable with driving. Alongside active listening and researching best practices, be sure to stay patient with yourself. Deep breathing and mindfulness can help you overcome nerves and feel less anxious on the road.
Practice: The more time you spend behind the wheel, the better prepared you’ll be for your test. It’s recommended that you have at least 40-45 hours of supervised practice before your test, but you should take as many as you need to feel confident.
Get a good night’s sleep: Lack of sleep can reduce your cognitive performance, make you more irritable and make it harder to cope with stress. To ensure you do your best on the day of your test and wake up feeling refreshed and focused, enjoy a relaxing bedtime routine with limited screen time.
Eat breakfast: If you’re particularly anxious about your test, you may consider skipping breakfast. However, low blood sugar levels can hinder your ability to focus and concentrate when on the road.
Get the right cover: Before taking your test, double check you have the right insurance. Research different policies to ensure you will be driving lawfully and reduce your mental load.
