While training new drivers over the road, keep this in mind for demonstrating professional practices and safe technique.
When your student is approaching an intersection or commercial driveway, and the unit is not in the curb lane, teach your student(s) to wait until after the intersection or commercial driveway to switch to the curb lane.
This comes to mind even when driving a 4-wheeler ( or some will call a car) and is a safety opportunity to never initiate a possible close call, or allow for a fellow driver to make a mistake that puts your student in a possible collision.
This is a small training technique that if observed, will remove many possible situations for as long as that driver is on the road.
We would encourage that driver to make a habit of waiting to make that lane change to the curb after any noticeable positions of other vehicles entering that curb lane.
So, for trainers, watch carefully how your student conducts themselves in these lane changing scenarios, and make a point of telling them how to use patience and observation in returning to the curb lane, in order to provide a calm, careful and safe driving practice.
And once again, this is a tip on the road that can easily be used for driving when out of the truck and running errands back home.
Teach Safety, teach technique, and teach compliance
